SEFtec builds cabin crew fire trainer inside classroom

SEFtec has now commissioned it’s latest custom Cabin Crew Fire Trainer at Saudia Academy, the leading aviation training centre in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The new fire training simulator replicates the interior of a commercial aircraft, but one that nobody would ever want to experience. The simulator allows instructors to create numerous emergency scenarios for trainee flight crews to combat. This project posed one huge challenge…

Seán Mowlds of SEFtec Group explains:

“We have built cabin crew training simulators before, but the big challenge this time is that it had to be constructed inside an existing classroom. That means that every part of this huge trainer had to fit through a standard classroom door.”

The simulator now allows cabin crew trainees to demonstrate their knowledge of how to manage several emergency scenarios on board, including:

  • Electrical fires

  • Galley fires

  • Lavatory waste bin fires

  • Overhead bin fires

  • Seat fires

  • Personal electronic devices (PED) fires

Each scenario can be controlled by the instructor via an iPad, enabling them to adjust the difficulty level to match the competence of the trainees. The fires feature real flames as well as artificial smoke, artificial burning smells, lighting and sound effects. As well as the replica cabin itself, the simulator features an office to house the control system and an extinguisher refill station, which can charge up to three training extinguishers at once.

Representatives from Saudia Academy visited SEFtec to see the simulator put through its paces before the entire trainer was dismantled, packed up and shipped to site. A team from SEFtec then flew to Saudi Arabia to reassemble the entire trainer inside their classroom.
