What is GWO Basic Safety Training?

The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) sets training standards for those wishing to work in the wind industry. The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) standard is intended for all workers to ensure their safety while performing their duties. The BST standard has 5 modules, each of which is focused on the needs of workers in a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) environment:

  • BST First Aid Module

  • BST Manual Handling Module

  • BST Fire Awareness Module

  • BST Working at Heights Module

  • BST Sea Survival Module

Who needs GWO Basic Safety Training?

As the world moves towards a future powered by renewable energy, wind power is becoming ever more important. This transition is seeing a huge surge in wind farms, and with that a huge increase in demand for wind turbine technicians to construct and maintain them. The GWO standards have been developed to create a common global standard for training, allowing wind farm operators to know that their work force has a baseline knowledge upon which in-house training can build.

Can SEFtec deliver GWO BST training facilities?

Yes, SEFtec can deliver complete GWO BST training facilities. While first aid and manual handling modules can be conducted in a classroom environment, the fire awareness, working at heights and sea survival modules require specialist facilities that can be sourced from SEFtec.

Like all SEFtec training facilities, the GWO BST facilities can all be delivered on a modular basis, so integrating a HUET for offshore helicopter operations is straightforward.

Whether you need a specialist GWO facility (for one or more training modules) or a facility that can also incorporate elements of OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation) and STCW (Standards of Training and Certification in Watchkeeping) training, SEFtec can tailor our designs to your exact requirements.
